Entertainment - New Zealands top Thai kickboxers are set to battle it out at a major kickboxing tournament, Capital Punishment 10, in Wellington on April 28 2007 on the card there will be a world ranked Muay Thai fighters, NZ title-holders, top contenders, and up and coming young fighters from around the country to challenge for titles and prove their mettle.

With 3 NZ Title fights, a North Island title and a full under card it will be the best Capital Punishment yet.

Main events to be contested include
NZ Womens Welterweight Title
NZ Mens Welterweight Title
North Island Middle weight title

The tournament will be something special with New Zealands top fighters battling it out. Main events include Hayley Landy a KO specialist with only 5 fights taking on one of the best women fighters in the world in Aucklands Karen Lynch. Karen is ranked 12th in the world and won a silver medal at the world championships in 2005.

Also on the card will also include Tricky Tom Sheppard defending his North Island title against BJ Bland.

NZ Womens Welterweight Title :

Hit em Hard Hayley Landy (VUW) Vs Karen the baby faced assassin Lynch (Auckland). Hit em Hard is one of the most feared woman fighters in NZ, with KO power that few can stand up to. She has had 5 fights winning them all and KOing 3 opponents along the way. The Baby faced assassin is ranked number 12 in the world and with 18 fights to her name, 12 wins and 5 KOs this fight will be a big task. Karen has a lot of titles to her name. She won a silver medal at the World Championships in 2005, was the WKB1 2004 Champion is the current WMC Light weight Title and is the former NZTBA Superlight weight Champion.

NZ Mens Welterweight Title :

Tony little Dragon Evans has trained in Kung Fu for 15 years, developing a reputation as an energetic and relentless fighter. He won this title at Capital Punishment 9 with a devastating KO win. Now he will do everything in his power to defend it against Leeroy. Leeroy Calhoun is trained by former World Champion and K1 fighter Rex Redden. Rex says that Leeroy is one of the best fighters I have seen and as the fight is under full Thai Rules (this includes elbows). It will be one of the highlights of the night.

North Island Middleweight Title :

Tricky Tom Sheppard (VUW) Vs BJ Bland (Palmerston North). Tom is a technical fighter and a knee specialist. He is out to defend his North Island title, and against the experienced BJ Bland. BJ is a hardened elbow fighter and gave his last opponent 14 stitches by landing a skimming razor sharp elbow, he is ready and standing in Toms way.

Dont blink this fight could be over fast!

VUW is based in Wellington New Zealand. The club trains in Victoria University's recreation centre.

Beginners train on Tuesdays 6:30pm-8:00pm and Thursdays 6:30pm-8:00pm .

Muay Thai can be learnt for self-defence, discipline, sport, or simply as a way to get and stay fit. VUW Kickboxing trains in Muay Thai, boxing and Kickboxing including full use of Knees and Elbows.

The Club welcomes people of all levels of experience from beginner upwards and includes many women. VUW provides an atmosphere where members can train in a safe and friendly environment.

VUW Kickboxing has a reputation for producing top New Zealand Fighters including Callan 'Cock-A-Doodle' Dean, 'Hyper!' Anthea Morrison, Ben 'the Virus' Ruck, Akane Oshima, 'Hit Em Hard' Hayley Landy, 'Tricky' Tom Sheppard, Vicki 'the Boss' Mellsop, Peter Bailey, Tom 'the Stone' deGroen, Dan '3rd Degree' Burns and Vince 'The Blade' Betham.
